Rule your DAW with the TASCAM FW-1884!
Awesome concept, however the Firewire connection is very poor. Sometimes my computer doesn't recognize it, sometimes there is popping in the recording, and a lot of the functions do not operate with Cubase SX 2.0. So if you purchase this, be ready to make some compromises and learn to love it.
This is a great, but not perfect product. It is very finicky. The Firewire connection needs to have the right chipset or else there are audio dropouts. Tascam has only recently come out with drivers for using it with Cubase. It may take a few weeks of hard work to get it to work completely with your system. Once you get it working, though, it is a great piece of equipment. There is decent support for the product on the forums on Tascam's websites, though, and they seem responsive to users' comments.
This is a must have for users of Motu & others. This unit is the perfect way to augment a PCI or Firewire setup. It provides three essentials: 1) no latency monitoring 2) 8 great sounding mic pres 3) hardware mixing controls. One other cool things that this unit has over a Digi002 is that it has industry standard Word clock In and Out. It is also expandable!
