I just received my second Jazzmaster II, a black model with white pickguard, black humbuckers. Why own two? Because I fell in love with my first one, a sunburst/tortoise-shell model, the moment I plugged it in. The short scale neck, the reduced weight and the excellent workmanship make this axe fun to play and easy to own. The Jaster II has quite a different sound than my Strats or Teles: more midrange overall, even though the twang and low-end can be dialed in as well. I like the no-nonsense controls, and the humbuckers aren't great, but lovely in their own right. I'd say these Duncan designed buckers are ideal for Fender-players who want to transition to a humbucker sound. So far there are only sunburst and black models available -should there be more colors in the future, I want them too!
Well I've always wanted a Surf Green '62 Fender Jaguar, my dream guitar I guess. And since that guitar will take some saving I went ahead and got the Jagmaster. Mainly because I like the design of the guitar and because I play alternative and this is an alternative guitar. It plays very well. But I take a star off because of the horrible pick-ups. Great guitar, reasonable price, great look and sound, I say get it!
The Jagmaster is good, but if you really are looking for the surf rock sound you might want to consider looking another way. In the middle pickup position you get that neat, "surfer" sound but it's nothing compared to the Jaguar. If you do get it and want it to sound like a Jaguar though do what I did and buy replacement pickups (vintage ones) and then put a coil-tap on them so you can make them single coil, thats the closest you will get to a Jaguar. Other than that it's a great guitar and I recommend it.
Nice, Fast, Neck. Great tone and pickups. Great sunburst or black finish and good trem. Great for any one or any style of music.
This guitar is the best you will find for the money. Duncan designed pick-ups are a step up. By far this is the nicest Squire I've played! I never thought I would own one, but this one is going with me to the gig! Highly recommend this axe as a first or twentieth guitar! Finish is so beautiful I might actually NOT paint this one!
