The body of the D50 is constructed of lightweight aluminum and it is built rugged to withstand the demands of pro applications, plus it offers long battery life using conventional AA alkaline batteries. The recorder includes a USB high-speed port for simple uploading/downloading its native .WAV format files to and from Windows PC or Macintosh computers. Other unique PCM-D50 features include digital pitch control, dual digital limiter (inherited from the PCM-D1), low-cut filter, Super Bit Mapping, A-B repeat, and MP3 playback capability. With typical Song quality, style, features and functions, the PCM-D50 is a powerful recording device that is both easy to use (plug N play) and packed with recording capability and features. I looked at all the other brands and decided to go with Sony based on prior product experience. I am very pleased with the decision. I am a techno idiot and do not like to mess with a lot of details. I was able to use the unit immediately without any trouble. The sound quality is excellent. Highly recommend this device!
I purchased my PCM-D50 about six months ago, and immediately ordered the wired remote and an extra SD memory card. This is an excellent instrument for inobtrusively recording church choirs. The sound quality is excellent, and the software that came with the instrument provides practically every feature you could ask for. Beside using this for live performances, I have used it to convert tapes into digital sound and make MP3s and rely upon it to record sound samples in the field, as my "real job" is a noise control engineer. I would recommend SONY and the PCM-D30 to anyone.
