Sounds natural and can work on about any sound. It's not the best for everything nor the worst for anything, but the most versatile of any mic I have ever seen and at a good price.

Anybody remember Leslie Tone Cabinets? If you play through one, you know you gotta keep up with the guitar amps. It's easy; mic the top and bottom with SM57s. You'll get the pure sound of those rotors moving that air, only real loud. Beautiful!

I've been working with this mic since my days as a roadie/historian with my original audio company in Lompoc, California, back in the mid 70s. Back then, this model delivered on premium reproduction, took serious beatings, and remarkably came back for more! Now that the company has been re-established in Vermont, we've bought the new models. It's great to see that Shure has not changed it's specs after all these years.

I purchased this mic and started to record with it right away. It is everything I imagined it to be and more. I recorded 3 different things with it. The guitar tracks, the bass track, and the vocal track all with this mic. The vocals could have been better, but then it is an instrument mic. The guitar and bass tracks, however, were superb, and gave me an incredible recording onto my friends Fostex mr-8. This is a very versatile mic, fairly inexpensive, and for the money I don't think you could beat it

I own two SM-57's for studio and live work. My recording engineer settles for nothing less than this Shure model. Crisp acoustic guitar pick-up is excellent since I am against "electrifying" my pristine Gibson AJ acoustic. For pick-up on my Vox tube amps, the recording reproduction makes my Les Pauls, SG, and Strat TRUE sounding with absolutely no background noise. We mic the drums with SM-57's as well; REALLY PICKS UP THE SNARE SOMETHING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

It¦s so perfect! It works terrific in my homestudio, I use it on my snare drum, guitar and bass amps and the vocals it¦s perfect on the snare and the amps but it could be better on the vocals but still I almost get real studio sound in my recordings. I use some Shure drum mic pack, Digidesign Mbox, and a Behringer mixer... I highly recommend this mic to record guitars!

This mic is really worth the money for someone looking for a versatile recording mic. I did bass amp, guitar amp, bass drum, toms, snare and hi hats with it and it has yet to fail me. I even did some vocals with it, but I find that the Shure SM 58 is a better vocal mic. This mic's capabilities are astounding and I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a recording mic that can do it all on a low budget.

I have 2 of these. I could use a 3rd (at least!)The SM57 has a great live and recording history that goes back a couple of rock and roll generations. This mic has been proven time and time again. I love it on loud guitar amps and drums in particular. I've been using them to record and for live stuff. The SM57 delivers edgy rock, Metal and R & B guitar sounds with the characteristics that I and so many through history have sought. I also like to use it as a second mic to a separate track if I'm trying to get a smoother guitar sound with a cardoid mic, but I want it to have some teeth and extra brightness. Two close mics right in the center of different speakers is the way I do it.

I have had this mic for a year or so and it always delivers. It is incredible for vocals and for instruments to. I have mic'ed a bassoon with this thing. This is overall the greatest mic I have ever used. If microphones took over the world, this would be their leader.
