Shure's documentation referring to the SLC's tuned port for extended bass is misleading. These buds won't give you thunderous, juvenile 'turn the bass control all the way up and play that Grand Funk tune loud' sound; far from it.
What you will find is that the entire frequency range from 20Hz to 20KHz is reproduced with pristine, flat-out accuracy. The entire sound spectrum is detailed, particularly in the upper registers, where you won't get the typical crunch of the sibilent s found with lesser ear buds.
SCL4's don't seem to tolerate rapid surges in gain, as when four vocalists pop in on a loud chorus. A compressor inserted in the IEM feed takes care of that.
Used with the included triple-flange sleeves, the SCL4's are excellent at isolating you from the ambient sound on stage. Perfect for the working musician who mixes sound for the band.
As for your mp3 player, use these and you'll never use anything else. They're fabulous, so good in fact, I ordered a second pair.
