Shure Beta 87A Supercardioid Condenser Mic
The Beta 87A

Premium Supercardioid Handheld Electret Condenser for Vocal Applications
The Beta 87A features a controlled low-frequency roll-off that compensates for proximity effect and prevents the "boomy" sound often associated with close pick-up. The characteristic Shure presence rise brightens the upper midrange. The tight supercardioid pattern, with null points at approximately 125 degrees, provides maximum isolation from other vocalists or instruments while offering minimal off-axis coloration. The BETA 87A operates on phantom power.

"Awesome Mic!" by Pedro Gutierrez

Great accuracy, clarity, and presence. Very open and natural. This mic is great. I just purchased the Neumann KM40, expecting it to be a mic that would knock me off my feet. I was impressed by the KM40, but not to the point where I would actually say that it blows away the Shure mics. In comparison with the KM40, The Beta 87 is not far off at all, as far as sound is concerned, and the KM40 is more than twice as much. The only thing I would suggest is that folks be careful with the verb you choose to use with this mic. I find that the TC electronic verbs make this mic sound way too bright and harsh. Lexicon made it sound much warmer. Hope this helped.

"Not as Clear as the OM6" by Bill Z

I was somewhat disappointed in this mic compared to the Audix OM6. The SM87a seems to be the mic for female vocalist these days, but I found it somewhat veiled sounding in side by side comparison under real live use. Of course I'll continue to use what ever the Vocalist prefers especially if they bring their own. But if the choice is mine to make I'll go with the OM6 for now.

"Studio quality and very rugged." by Vito D.

This mic makes my voice sound better than I ever imagined possible. I am hitting high notes without strain that I could never hit with even an expensive dynamic mic. If you like to come in and actually touch your lips to the grill for a low sounding note this mike is still as clear as a bell. I've been using this mic for over a year and find it just as tough and durable as my dynamic mics.

"The Shure Beta 87A - Can't Be Beat" by Tim

This mic was well worth every penny that I payed for it. I bought it new and it's a pretty microphone... The sound is chrystal clear and completely eliminates that "Gee! I feel like I'm singing in a box" sound of the old SM58. This mic is condenser, studio quality in a rugged, live performance package. I love this mic. Luckily, I have a nice voice to begin with (according to what others say...) and this mic just brings out the best in my voice. Silky smooth - amazing microphone. I would have gladly paid list for this. It was well worth my money and would be well worth yours too. Highly recommended - this is the ultimate live performance microphone.

"Goodbye feedback!!!" by David L.

I just love this mic. My confidence, while performing on stage, or recording in the studio had tremendously increased due to the superb quality the Beta 87 has assured me. No more muffled low notes, or annoying pops and such from p words. Feedback, also has became a thing of the past for our group since switching to these mics. There pickup pattern successfully blocks out noise coming from frontal items such as stage monitors. If your in the market for a quality mic, don't pass this one by. It is very well priced any yet performs like a mic that would cost you a hundred or so more.
