The Nanoflex pickup not only takes the vibrations of the strings like common undersaddle pickups, it senses the vibrations of the strings and the body of the instrument simultaneously. Due to active amplification directly at the pickup and 100% shielding of the entire system, no sound will be lost and no hum created.Shadow felt that because of the beautiful design and incredible frequency response in violins and violas that no instrument modification was a must in developing this pickup system. The Shadow violin pickup mounts easily under the bridge and senses the vibrations of the bridge and the body. Control unit with volume and tone potentiometer mounts on the side of the violin with chin rest type assembly. The control unit has input for pickup and standard 1/4" jack output, 3V cell battery (2032). Battery lifetime averages 1 year.

Unit is very nicley made ( Germany, not china ) I give it 5 just for that. Has tone & volume control knobs on the unit. Knobs are too low & its hard to adjust while playing.Does have a nice sound though.The biggest disappointment was the sound "Pick up Element". It's a thick plastic strip that goes "Under" the violin bridge..which probably works well for sound pick up..but when you want to play your violin without the sound system (acoustic only), you have now changed your violin to being "Muted" all the time. I believe this item would work very well if you don't care if your violin is muted or not. so 5 star for made in germany & 0 star for mfg's dumb ideal for their location of sound pick up .. 3 star avg.
