I just bought this humbucker and I was in a frantic craze on how cool it was. It gives the most crisp distortion I've ever heard. I recently put it in a strat I was building and it was perfect by itself. It really didn't need the other pickups. This is the best pickup if you are looking for crunchiness, crisp distortion, or clean sound.
I've been repairing and modifying guitars for over 20 years. Until Seymour Duncan came along, the Gibson "humbucker" was the only act in town worth talking about. Aside from the Fender "Strat", which has a sound characteristic all it's own, You can take ALMOST any decent dual humbucker guitar and fit it up with a pair of Seymour Duncans and you are ready to "Smoke"! I even took an inexpensive Yamaha PAC112M (Strat knockoff) and installed the SH-4JB in the bridge position with a switch to split the coils: position #1 is the single coil and position #2 is the double humbucker. The end result is a guitar that sounds like a Strat, and with a flip of the switch, Bingo...a Gibson SG.
This is a very professional pickup. Sounds great and delivers a nice punch. I have one on my strat and it sounds perfect. I love it.
When I first bought these pickups, I couldn't wait to cut up the pickguard on my start and plop them in. These pickups are some of the best I have ever heard. Lots of bottom end, and a lot of highs. Very clear sound, and some of the best distortion that I have ever played. I love the tone and I would recommend this pickups to anyone.
I recently bought a Suzuki Les Paul (discontinued now, but if you can find one, look past the motorcycle namesake and judge it as the great guitar that it is) and was looking to replace the stock pickups, which were unimpressive. I got this put in the bridge with a Duncan '59 in the neck, and new 500k pots. Wasn't blown away playing it through my Ampeg B50R (bass amp) or through my tiny Marshall practice amp, but today I got a chance to play it through a proper amp (a 100 watt Crate). One word: WOW. What a difference an amp can make! I like to play Zeppelin and Floyd stuff, and just general overdriven blues, and this pickup can give me any sound I want. Completely balanced tone, and sustain is unbelievable. I closed my eyes and let a sustained note feed back (amazing), and for a second, I thought I was Jimmy Page. Then I realized I wasn't...no matter, though, because this pickup is awesome, and will see me through any amount of skill that I may someday develop. Chances are it will do the same for you. Highly recommended.
