After the MD 409 had achieved mythical cult status in the studios for rock guitar recording, it was inexplicably discontinued. Recognizing the error of their ways, Sennheiser brought back the sound and fury of the magical 409 with the e609 Silver. A side- address design lets you use the cable to hang the mic over the cab to sit perfectly in the sweet spot (with a little gaffing tape to hold it in place). Its supercardioid pattern eliminates bleed while high SPL handling lets you crank it. Also great for bass amps, toms, and brass.
- Specially designed for miking guitar cabs
- Laterally mounted capsule for miking guitar cabs face on and extremely close to the signal source
- Supercardioid pattern provides isolation from other onstage signals
- Lightweight voice coil construction and rigid dome diaphragm provide extended high-frequency performance
- Long-wearing capsule assembly
- Also suitable for miking drums, especially toms
- 40Hz -18kHz frequency response

I have used many different mics over the years, looking for that perfect metal guitar tone. I don't know if it really exist's ( for us poor home studio guy's). But, I found this mic to be one of the best available. On a recent recording,I used the e609 and an Audix i5 for micing an Egnater Tourmaster slant cabinet with a Peavey 5150 head. I ran both mics through a Presonus BlueTube DP. The result was a very articulate, clear ,and punchy, stereo sound. The attack had a killer metallic, grindy tone. The e609 was placed straight on and the i5 was placed off axis on the bottom left speaker. For that grindy attack, work with the amps' prescense control .The higher, the better. Watch the EQ also. Most people use too much low end while recording.
