I got these as a gift a few months ago. I couldn't have asked for a better set of headphones. Very comfortable, easy to wear for a long time, and incredible sound. They allow you to hear every little nuance in the music. You can hear all 4 guitars in Eagles - Hotel California, screaming guitar and vocals of Flaw, and the awesome bass lines of Korn. I use them in the amateur recording and music editing I do, and they're perfect.
The Senn 280s are a pretty good headphone for their price. They have a clear, analytical sound that's very strong in the highs and a bit quiet in the bass. They block out external noise very well. They do have a couple of problems. They clamp your head quite tightly, which can get uncomfortable after a while. They get quite warm. The 280s are a great headphone for the price, but if your budget can cope, I'd suggest a step up. The AKG 271s are better but require a headphone amp. Beyerdynamics 250-80 are probably best if you don't have an amp.
These Headphones are amazing. You get your money's worth out of these headphones. As a student, I'm tossing stuff in and out of my backpack almost everyday. I've even stepped on these headphones a few times. The durability of these headphones is incredible, as well as the sound quality. Well worth the 100 bucks.
Sennheiser knows how to make great products and these are the best around for their class and price point. They are very comfortable to wear and have great sound. Also, they fold up nicely to tuck away in a bag or case. Excellent for home studio use, AV production, or listening to your favorite music on your home stereo system. Also very handy and recommended to have a few for your pro studio. Sennheiser also has user replaceable spare parts available. Nice going Sennheiser!
