This is a great looking guitar. The wild cherry back and sides is really detailed wood. The cedar top gives it a smoother tone than spruce. What I like best is the neck. It is slightly wider with more space for your fingers. If you play finger style, you will like this very well. Not as wide as a classical guitar, but wider than a typical accoustic. It is not a loud guitar out of the box, but as the cedar ages it becomes louder. I've had mine for 6 months I can tell a difference in volume. Seagulls are made in Canada from good Canadian trees. Try one out if you cant afford American guitars, and are not thrilled with other import guitars. You may be pleasantly suprised.

I've had the Seagull S6 for about 4 months and couldn't be happier. We have a guitar shop nearby and for playablility you cannot touch the S6 for the money. The wider nut makes it easy to play with larger fingers or when picking individual notes. The cedar top gives it a clear yet warm mellow tone. I also lowered the bridge and play with a pick and have not had any buzzing etc. This guitar is the best one I've found in this price range. Buy it you won't be sorry!!

I have a 1997 S6 that has aged well. It has many scratches since the cedar is pretty fragile but I find it gives it character. I filed down the nut 2/16'' and the bridge 1/16'' to get the right action. The neck is bolted on, which is fine by my standards and the canadian wood means this guitar is adapted to colder and higher humidity climates. The aged cedar top has better projection and a softer more mellow tone than spruce tops. This makes it ideal for rhythm reinforcement. You can hear this tone, distinctive of the Seagull line.

I bought this guitar on the advice of a renown vintage guitar shop in St. Paul and I couldn't be happier. As a novice student, it is a great guitar at a respectable price, and it doesn't come with the stigma of a cheap Chinese made thing in the company of experts! Well built, solid, holds tune, and looks good.
