I have the 16" dark crash. It's a fast, dry, explosive crash with fast decay. Great for a small fast crash on the side of your main crashes. I highly recommend the 16.
Unlike the rest of AAX, this cymbal is not half as brilliant sounding for obvious reasons. It almost sounds like a hand hammered. It blends nicely during more subtle parts in music. I wouldn't recommend using it as a main crash if you hit hard because it's so thin. However it still adds a nice variety to louder music if hit harder and used sparingly. Nice warm tone, smooth fairly long sustain. Probably better suited for jazz and softer playing but still moderately versatile.
Where to start, I got this cymbal about a week ago, and I'm amazed. I got the 17", brilliant finish, I've played on other brilliant cymbals, they don't sound right, but the Sabian crashes are exquisite. I have an entire set of AAX now, and I couldn't be happier, its so loud, so smooth, and its just perfect, it just is. Go Sabian.
