I have had this drumset for 8 months so far. I had a Yamaha before it; it was okay, it put up with a lot of hammering but overall I would not reccomend Yamaha electronic drums. This Roland set is almost completely flawless. It takes in some of the hardest hits (I play a lot of rock) without any damage. Naturally, there is a considerable amount of drumstick marks. All the pads, especially the mesh snare have great response and playability. The cymbals have good sounds and feel, but one problem I have is the ride. It's too quiet, even when I turn its individual trigger's volume up. And the velocity-sensitive bell is pretty annoying. I like good raw, powerful rides like the one Steven Adler uses in "Paradise City" by Guns and Roses, so when I hit hard, I get the bell sound instead of the bow sound. I have played many other electronic drumsets and Roland is ultimaltely superior to any other company. Keep in mind that this drumset does not come with a bass pedal. I have a DW 7000 single pedal which works very well. I have had no problems with this drumset and I highly reccomend it.
I've had the TD3 set for about 2 months now and I must say its very impressive. My previous experiences with electronic drums were mostly negative. This set puts the others to shame. The pads are nice and sensitive and allow lots of expression. The set reacts to the level of impact - you can play softly or hard and the set reacts accordingly. Some of the pads are dual trigger and allow you to achieve different sounds just like you would be able to do with acoustic drums. The sounds are very realistic, not artifical and life-less. I was very impressed with the sound, I have my set hooked up to a pair of studio monitors with a subwoofer. It can get very loud and sound very real at any volume level, but sounds best when LOUD, just as a real drum set would. I was very weary about buying an electronic set, especially with my negative past exeperiences. I wanted to get an acoustic set, but didn't have enuff space, so this works out even better. Its small enuff to keep in the corner of my small home office. The stand is of good quality and very stable. The Bass drum was surprisingly stable and has a very realistic feel to it. The sound module covers most popular drum sounds. I wish it offered more sounds, but I was still able to find and edit sounds to suit my needs. If you want more sound options, I'd recommend upgrading to the TD6 sound module. Overall, I'd confidently recommend this set to the beginner drummer or experienced drummer who wants all the benefits of an electronic drum set.
This is my first e-kit. Overall I am satasfied. The stand is a bit weak. And the clamps are cheap. Pads seem to be good quality and I like the rebound. Snare is very sensitive. Cymbals take getting used to. I don't like how you activate the bell on the ride (hit real hard). Hi hat is a little strange. Maybe just takes getting used to? Module has a lot of decent sounds. Some lame sounds also. They could have put a few more realistic sounds in there and less electronic hip hop type stuff. But maybe that's what the consumers want. Overall you can build at least 5 great sounding kits. I hope it is durable and lasts.
