Been interested in obtaining an acoustic bass for some time. Not many to choose from in this price category, but I had good luck with the Rogue products in previous buys and this AB seems to follow suit. Nice overall appearance and construction - natural spruce laminate top with really striking mahogany laminate back and sides (the linear 3D graining fairly glows in bright light). Good fret fitment, fair intonation, decent tuning machines, and robust, ivory-hued plastic nut and saddle materials. Interestingly subtle use of abalone inlay fret dots to match the rosette and top perimeter binding. The bound split back and bottom binding are above and beyond the price. Prener LC preamp with tuner is a nice piece on the upper bout. There's a separate patch plate offset on the lower bout that contains a 9v batt box, 1/4" and 3 prong plug-in for amping. The single gold strap button is left alone to just hold the strap. Strings are brassy looking roundwounds which match the gold hardware. Sound warm and plucky played acoustic (good) and scritchy-scratchy amped(bad). More likely the preamp's character coming through. A switch to stainless flatwounds dulled the acoustic, but cured the amped sound. In time I'll find the perfect string compromise and fine tune the setup. Rather than just another cheap AB, this Rogue's a well made acoustic four string that is simply made cheaply. That's a good thing in this price category. The matching Rogue (TKL) hard case fits it perfect and is worth the extra hunge.
