I have about ten grand rapped up in my nine piece Tama Grandstar vintage kit which has two bass drums. I recently picked up a "beater" kit, a Tama Swingstar five-piece with only one bass drum. Me, being a double-bass drummer at heart, needed that extra kicker for my left foot! Personally, I've never really liked anyone's kit that had a double pedal. Anyway, I recently joined a "money-maker" band and I needed to down-size from my expensive beast. Which brings me to the five -piece beater. I did buy this Pulse double pedal. I gave it 3 stars out of 5. Really wanted to give it about 2 and 3/4. For the money, it rocks! That is, if you spend the time to "tweek" it in. After about two hours of adjusting it to my liking, I really do like it. The only downfall is; I had to install two small brackets with screws to hold down the rear of the right (main) pedal because it kept lifting up when I really got jamming on it. Now, after the brackets, it works just fine. I'd have to say that after comparing prices to the top brands--I got a real bargain! However, we'll see how she holds up over time...Hey, if you've got the time to make some adjustments and make it work for you--then I say; go for it! Give it a try. It's definitely worth every penny I spent on it. But, if you're the kind of person that takes something out of the box and expects it to work perfectly once you hook it up for the first time, then I suggest you go for a top-notch brand and spend about five times the amount in comparison to this one.
I bought a pulse double bass pedal about 3 years ago because of lack of funds. It lasted maybe a year tops. The beaters and the footboards are horribly heavy, causing the pedal to not be very efficient as far as speed is concerned. Lastly, its very clunky and heavy to carry. Even though it has all the features of the top brand pedals, even the features can't compensate for the overall heaviness and lag of the pedal. Would definately not reccomend this pedal for the working drummer nor would I reccomend it even for a begginner.
