PreSonus FirePod 10 Channel I/O FireWire Interface with Cubase LE Factory B-Stock
The PreSonus FIREPOD FireWire interface is a complete recording studio solution with highly musical Class A mic preamps, superb 24-bit/96kHz A/D/A converters, and Steinberg's Cubase LE 48-track recording software.

The 8 XMAX microphone preamplifiers are custom-designed, ultralow-noise, high-headroom preamps perfect for recording a wide variety of sources including vocals, drums, guitars, bass, piano, keyboards, guitars, synths, horns, orchestras, and choirs. Each preamp has its own level control knob on the front input to let you easily control the input gain of each one.

Inputs 1 and 2 of the FIREPOD can be switched between microphone or instrument level while inputs 3 thru 8 can be switched between microphone or line input. Phantom power (+48V) is available on every channel in groups of 4. Channels 1 and 2 feature fully balanced send and return TRS connectors on the rear of the rugged metal chassis for inserting outboard dynamics, EQ, and effects processors. The FIREPOD recording system has 8 balanced TRS line outputs as well as 2 balanced TRS main outputs and cue outputs for additional monitoring. 2 channels of S/PDIF input and output as well as MIDI input and output are also included.

The front-panel stereo headphone output and mix control lets you balance monitoring levels between mixed input and main output signals for zero-latency monitoring.

The FIREPOD comes ready-to-go with Steinberg's Cubase LE 48-track 24/96 recording software and is also compatible with many popular ASIO/WDM and Core Audio based applications.

Cubase LE is based on award-winning Cubase SX technology featuring 48 audio tracks, VST plug-ins, and full VSTi support. I love this thing. I've been using it for over a year. It has never failed on me. The unit gets fairly hot when being used, but doesn't cause trouble. I run it with Cubase sx3.

Well, not much to say, it is the most versatile and good sounding interface I?ve experienced working with. The Pre-amps are incredibly noiseless and clear. The I/O options are infinte and you have total control of gain and other controls including phantom power in one single rack unit. I've tried mine for a week now, and I'm tottally satisfied. If you use Sonar, you could even add a surface controler for confortable mixing and stuff. Presonus rules...

I bought a Firepod a few weeks ago. Quite easy to set up and very clean sounding for recording and playback. My only complaint is the line-outs in the back cannot be used as Direct Outs. I had hoped to record my band live by routing the signal from my snake into the Firepod, and then directly out the back and into my Behringer mixer. Unfortunately that didn't work. I ended up using the "Insert" jacks on my mixer as a makeshift direct-out to route the signal from the snake to the mixer then from the Inserts to the firepod. It works OK, but since my Inserts are Post-gain, the gain setting on the mixer have an impact on how much signal gets sent to the Firepod.I contacted Presonus about this and the guy on support said it may be possible on the next driver release that is currently being worked on. (I'm currently using version 1.12) Other than this one problem I am very happy with my unit and plan on buying another one soon so I can do up to 16 channels of audio!

I've been working with the firepod for a month or two now, and I feel I've gotten to know it both in a physical and spiritual way. It does some great things. I use it for everyday self recording (just one line at a time) and have used it to record a 3 piece band using all 8 inputs. Cubase LE which comes with it is a good program, but there are some things about it that really bug me (i.e. really crappy mp3 audio mixdown), but that shouldn't affect your judgement about the firepod. One thing you should be aware of, however, is that inputs 3-8 have a very low gain on the 1/4 inch inputs, which means if you're using a mic on these inputs, you'll need an xlr to xlr cable (no xlr to 1/4 cables... which should be replaced anyway). But if you were like me, using the crappiest equipment possible to get something on the computer, you really need to step up to this eventually, and this is a very reasonably priced item for what it does.

This is an awesome interface, best for it's price range. Easy to use and install. Very nice. Just recorded my band and it sounded great. It's worth every penny. This is a must have if you are low on a budget.
