I have a 6pc set of Pearl Prestige Session Elites which are approximately 10 yrs old, but in excellent condition. I have replaced all old I.S.S. mounts with the new optimounts. However, I cannot find an optimount to fix my 14 inch tom-tom. the lugs are spaced just a little too far apart. But if you have a newer set, these mounts work great and the stability of the mounts are great also.
I bought the pearl Optimount for my 16x16 floor tom. I thought I would be a better idea to mount it off of a stand rather than the floor for more resonance. Somehow I was wrong. The tom lost almost all of its sustain and turned into a dull, empty thud. I tried an ISS mount and had the same results. Even after I re-finished my kit (strip off the wrap, walnut stain, 5 coats lacquer, new heads, split the lugs, inserted nylon washers) the optimount still made it sound bad. I went back to the traditional floor tom legs and the problem was fixed. So now my floor tom sounds really good, and I have an extra optimount just sitting around. (In case you are wondering, I have a pearl export kit from the mid 90's, the shells are mahogany, I have coated emperors on the top and clear ambassadors on the bottom.) All in all, it didn't work at all for my drum set, I was kind of disappointed, but the results might not be the same for a maple kit.
