Ray Ayotte has done some great things as the design man for Taye over the years. The Go Kit was originally brought out 3 years ago and has been a strong seller ever since. The drums are a birch/basswood layup which for the small sizes is a perfect choice. Warmth and punch with tremendous tom resonance, snare crack and bass drum thud. Like any scaled down kit the maximum volume you get from the Go Kit is below full size drums. But for the size they have enough punch and volume for small venue gigs. Really a great practice and lesson kit which is what I use it for. My two performance kits (Ludwigs) stayed cased when at home but the Go Kit really never goes anywhere. It's set up in the music area of the house and takes up about half the space of a full size kit. Great little drums.

I was looking for an acoustic kit that was as compact as my electronic kit and I found it I ordered the antique honey it took about 4 weeks. The finish is sweet high gloss lacquer no flaws. I have used single braced hardware for 20 years and the taye stuff is some of the best I have used. First thing I did was change the heads to evens G2 clear batters tuned to 70 on my drum dial. Evens black resonant on bottom tuned to 65. Bass drum I used the evens made with the thick muffle strip no other muffling was used. I never in my wildest dreams thought that these drums would sound better than any acoustic kit I have owned. I played the snare right out of the box and it was great very sensitive but loud. If you are looking for a huge sounding compact kit this is it.

OK fellow drummers, your reading this because you've been shopping for a compact set of drums. I'm here to tell you that you will love the GoKit. Be sure to go ahead and purchase the three cases from Music123. They are very durable and made just for this kit. As far as the kit itself, I have the white pearl and it is absolutely beautiful. The finish is excellent and the silver hoops only add to it. I know the most important thing is the sound. I did replace all the heads. I put EvansG2's on the toms. I put an Evans Genera on the 13" snare and Evans heads on the front and batter side of the kick drum. I trigger my kick with a D5 so the loss in depth didn't bother me that much. Not that the sound is bad but it's obvious your going to lose a little depth when you go to a 7.5" kick drum. The snare has a remarkable crack to it and the toms have wonderful tones. I promise you will be very impressed with the way this kit sounds. You will be even more impressed at how well it travels and sets up. If your thinking about this kit you've probably shopped the Yamaha HipGig kit. I know that because I did myself. I have a buddy that has that kit and I wouldn't trade mine for his with money to boot. The hardware with the GoKit is tremendous. The kick pedal is very smoothe and all the memory locks will just add in cutting your setup time down to a minimum. In closing, if your thinking about it, just do it. I promise once you've fine tuned it to your standards, you won't be disappointed. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me and I'll try to help you any way I can. I hope this has helped and happy drumming.
