This guitar has everything one would want from an acoustic/electric. The pickup is second to none and the sound that it emits unplugged rivals or exceeds any traditional acoustic I have heard or played. The finish and looks are a piece of eye candy no one can look away from. The ease of sliding up and down the neck was a plus too. I have yet to plug her in and I am awaiting my amp so I can't give you feedback in that department yet. My jazz interest are pure at heart with this guitar and the music of the likes of Ms. Nora Jones never sounded better on a guitar. If you want an a/e guitar that has looks, style, and sound, this is it.

Great sound, nice tuner , great amp, geat tone, nice looks. I've taken down the bridge quite a bit and it's now playable. I was sold on the looks and the name.

What a fantastic guitar, it sounds great acoustically, and we all know Ovations do plugged in so fine. After all, that's what they have been known for over decades. It just makes sense that they have managed to bring their signature acoustic sound up a few clicks. While I have personally always liked the Ovation midrange bite, extremely balanced tonal spectrum, they have not been as resonant and sparkling as some all wooden guitar. Well Ovations turn towards a bit more traditional bracing with the LX series has changed a lot of that. Then going a step further, scalloped braces kicks up a notch. Resulting in an Ovation sound that is not only bigger, louder, more resonant, still retaining the tone signature we all have come to love. This Elite Ovation is much closer to sounding like a wooden guitar without the usual drawbacks we find with a wooden guitar. Altered tunings, harmonics, smooth jazzy chords all come through first rate. You can even hang some bluegrass flatpicking on this axe. Much more versatile than most other guitars. As someone said above the neck is different than previous Ovations, rounder, fatter, less taper, but seemingly easy to adapt to. Some real small necks are tiring after a few hours due to the cramped feel. This neck reminds me of an older Gibson ES. The superb craftsmanship is perfect and reflects Ovations American quality. Nothing imported here. What a cool looking guitar! It projects forever both in looks and sound. It has become my number one player for acoustic work. I give it 5 stars, maybe 6!

On first appearance, you'll be impressed with the beauty of this. The use of Ebony, the aa spruce tops, the gorgeous inlaid epaulets, and the attractive natural finish. Ovation has changed its bracing system and the result is a much deeper acoustic sound with a wider tonal range. You'll get much more bass than you're used to with excellent projection. The plugged sound (also improved) is fantastic with easy controls and an on-board tuner. A fantastic, gorgeous, versatile guitar.

An Ovation that sounds like a big old Dread...Yea right. Well, while not completely possible I must say this guitar is very close to sounding like a 50 year old Martin, but much more balanced. I couldn't believe my ears. I really like the way this guitar looks. Altered tunings is this guitars forte. Although I could fire off some bluegrass licks as well on this rocket. Craftsmanship is excellent, great top and a nice slightly rounder and fatter neck. Feels a little Gibsonish. It is very comfortable to play and still very fast, just has a bit more meat to it. I like it... Plugged in she rocks and has a variety of pick up EQ settings, you can achieve most any plugged tone you wish. It is extremely clean and quiet as well. I am still mostly stoked over the acoustic tone. One of the most balanced, rich and prvery complex for an Ovation. Good work R & D dudes! If you want a working axe, with dazzlingly sexy looks...for a bit over a thousand bucks, this is your baby. Go play one and see what you think.

I tried this guitar out before buying it at my local music store. Of course though I ordered it here due to price. The finish and looks of this acoustic/electric are unreal and superb! The sound was so much like a traditional acoustic and sounded as good as my Walden D550T, which I started on and still have. I must admit I was skeptical of the back material but was surprised by the tone it emitted. It is somewhat expensive, but how it plays makes you wonder why it did not cost more. Can't wait to hook it into an amp.

"neck profile is not what you are accustomed to"

The LX is indeed a lighter, louder, Ovation with good acoustic projection and a pre-amp that rivals the Taylor expression system in terms of organic tone. One caution: Ovation most recently, has gone with the electric player's acoustic sales pitch. I believe one reason they were able to satisfy this claim was the neck PROFILE of their guitars. They were slender and tapered for fast fretting. The LX neck profile is more rounded with far less taper. The heel is bulky, compromising access to upper frets made available by the cutaway. If you are an ovation fan and looking to upgrade, this guitar may not feel at all like the ovation you are accustomed to. It does sound better unplugged and wired.

I absolutely love what they did with the epaulets (inlaid). If you are a fan of the Elites this should be reason enough to get an LX. But it gets better. Very playable, very even on the tone. Down low it has a real growl and the high end is defined but not brassy. More often I finger pick with hammer-ons and pulls - THERE IS REAL DEPTH COMING OUT OF THIS GUITAR! My other guitar/comparison is a Guild D50 built in 1967. The LX (brand new out of the box) has the low end of the dreadnought. It has a darn good start on the 36 years of tone as well.It has the projection that only a Roundback can give! The OP Pro gives excellent visual reference when tuning with the lighted indicator. The pick up is the best available on any A/E out there. It is an outstanding acoustic instrument with extreme potential when plugged in. You'll get an incredible value.
