What a fantastic guitar, it sounds great acoustically, and we all know Ovations do plugged in so fine. After all, that's what they have been known for over decades. It just makes sense that they have managed to bring their signature acoustic sound up a few clicks. While I have personally always liked the Ovation midrange bite, extremely balanced tonal spectrum, they have not been as resonant and sparkling as some all wooden guitar. Well Ovations turn towards a bit more traditional bracing with the LX series has changed a lot of that. Then going a step further, scalloped braces kicks up a notch. Resulting in an Ovation sound that is not only bigger, louder, more resonant, still retaining the tone signature we all have come to love. This Elite Ovation is much closer to sounding like a wooden guitar without the usual drawbacks we find with a wooden guitar. Altered tunings, harmonics, smooth jazzy chords all come through first rate. You can even hang some bluegrass flatpicking on this axe. Much more versatile than most other guitars. As someone said above the neck is different than previous Ovations, rounder, fatter, less taper, but seemingly easy to adapt to. Some real small necks are tiring after a few hours due to the cramped feel. This neck reminds me of an older Gibson ES. The superb craftsmanship is perfect and reflects Ovations American quality. Nothing imported here. What a cool looking guitar! It projects forever both in looks and sound. It has become my number one player for acoustic work. I give it 5 stars, maybe 6!

An Ovation that sounds like a big old Dread...Yea right. Well, while not completely possible I must say this guitar is very close to sounding like a 50 year old Martin, but much more balanced. I couldn't believe my ears. I really like the way this guitar looks. Altered tunings is this guitars forte. Although I could fire off some bluegrass licks as well on this rocket. Craftsmanship is excellent, great top and a nice slightly rounder and fatter neck. Feels a little Gibsonish. It is very comfortable to play and still very fast, just has a bit more meat to it. I like it... Plugged in she rocks and has a variety of pick up EQ settings, you can achieve most any plugged tone you wish. It is extremely clean and quiet as well. I am still mostly stoked over the acoustic tone. One of the most balanced, rich and prvery complex for an Ovation. Good work R & D dudes! If you want a working axe, with dazzlingly sexy looks...for a bit over a thousand bucks, this is your baby. Go play one and see what you think.
