After thoroughly studying the pros and cons of every hard shell bass case I could find, I finally decided on this one for my P-Bass, and I am very glad I did. It was everything I had hoped for. I just about bought a plastic shell case with a nice preformed interior, but I sure liked the classy outside looks of this one, far better. Ultimately, I decided to go with the plywood construction style (this case), because I knew it would be easy to customize professionally.
The case is surprisingly light (13.4 lbs.). It is covered in a browner than the picture distressed pleather with a slight suede feel that looks and feels plenty high dollar. Hardware is not super heavy, but then not too light either. Nice padded handle. Lining is a golden but also browner than the picture fun-fur. Inside dimensions are: Pocket 6"W x 15"L x 1.125"D, Body area 22"L x 14"W (Extra 1/2" perimeter padding), Head area 15.5"L x 15"W plus above the pocket which, btw, the lid actually helps support the neck on my P-Bass, as I had hoped. Total inside length is indeed 46.5" as specified.
I made a complimentary colored (no way to exactly match the case interior) dark brown fun-fur covered foam cutout for my standard size P-Bass body to take up the slack and to give the existing foam saddle some help when the case is vertical. (Stuffing a rolled hand towel between the guitar body and hinge side would also work fine.) I also added a fur covered divider, parallel to the neck, in hinge side of the top portion to keep a guitar stand in place. I also screwed a couple gold colored eyes to the pocket side, each with a loop & ball bungie to easily hold 20 or even more feet of cable in place beneath the neck and still away from the head and machines.
If you are considering this type of case, buy this one with confidence.
