"What a beautiful instrument", was my first thought after opening the box. The Quilt Maple on the front and sides is a pleasure to look at. After playing it, I was even more satisfied, the neck is very fast for an acoustic 5. Fit and finish are a 9. I have a variety of high end basses and this one has a nicer top than any of them. There was a minimal buzz on the G 12th fret that was 99% taken out with a truss rod adjustment, ( the bronze strings are very noisy , I may change them to semi flats). The Fishman electronics are simple and allow for a variety of parameters. Overall, it's one heck of a deal and much nicer than most of the competition. I give it a 5.
I bought this bass without ever touching one with my own hands. I did play several similar basses in local shops and find the dragonfly 5 to be exactly what I wanted. I found the bass to play without fret buzz and the action above the 12th fret better than expected from reading reviews of other acoustic basses. The Dragonfly 5 is a fine addition to my collection of acoustic and electric basses and six strings. I have no hesitation in recommending this guitar to anyone who is considering this kind of purchase.
Have just had the MK AB 5 for a week. It came in a day early, and I put it immediately to work at a major rehearsal session, before even a home test or tune. I agree with the feeling of one of the AB 4 Drangofly reviews, if the MK product withstands the test of time, this represents a great playing and sounding instrument with excellent fit and finish. It's good both acoustically and electrically, and was exactly what I needed. The gig bag could use a little more padding.
I recieved a dragonfly 5 as a gift about a year and a half ago. Initially it had a small buzz on a couple of the high frets and required some very minor adjustment (filing of frets) but with that done it has been an outstanding instrument. Great sound, great feel and it looks good too. This has become the bass I generally reach for first.
