This mouthpiece paid for itself on the first day of use. My daughter's band director noticed right off how much better she sounded, and she hadn't played for him in almost a week. The customer service was extraordinary, and so was the price.
Very good piece the price. just a few flaws. little weak in the upper register and altissimo(mostly palms). other than that it gets a really nice bright full sound with the right reeds.(prefer rico Jazz select 2 1/2 even tho alot of ppl dont like them, maybe some javas.)using an olegature on it. A good solo piece. for lead sax i'd prefer something bigger(7M) Nice job Meyer.
I've been playing Meyer alto mouthpieces for years in various big bands. These mouthpieces are very versatile - they can play bright, dark or anywhere in between. I have a complete set in all 4 facings - 5,6,7 and 8. I've played all the facings with various reeds. Each facing has its own character. Currently I'm using a 5 with Fibracell medium reeds/Rovner light lig on a Mark VI alto.
I've been playing my meyer 6M for a month now and so far I am very pleased with its performance. It can play loud and soft but, I will say, Use a 2 reed or else you'll kill your lips.
This mouthpiece is easily the top choice for serious jazz musicians of any age. It combines rich tone quality with outstanding power for the full range of the saxophone. It has been the number 1 mouthpiece used by Phil Woods for the length of his career, which speaks for itself. It has the power of a metal mouthpiece while maintaining substantial control. Paired with a good sax it is unbeatable.
