Martin HD-28 Standard Dreadnought Acoustic
Martin HD-28 Dreadnought

The HD-28, introduced in 1976, represents the re-creation of Martin's legendary "herringbone" D- 28 style guitars built from roughly 1933 to 1946. Solid, book-matched East Indian rosewood is used for the back and sides. The top is clear, vertical-grained Sitka spruce.

In fact, many players consider the HD-28 to be the best sounding of all Martin guitars. With its adjustable, low-profile neck it is also one of the most comfortable and easy playing guitars, as well. While collectors will forever pursue the legendary (and highly elusive) pre-war "bone," today's HD-28 is a worthy successor - and readily accessible.

Everyone from Eric Clapton to Sting to Johnny Lang has played a Martin guitar, and professionals and amateurs alike know the bright sparkle and deep, resonant tone that Martin guitars have become famous for, from the most high end acoustics to the Backpacker.

This HD-28 is without a doubt the most amazing acoustic guitar i have ever played. i own a Taylor as well, but it just doesn't match up. If you are serious about buying a guitar, don't look at brand names, listen to the sound and pick one you like. I find that the Taylors are really good for live stuff and they seriously lack bass. Martins however are great for all acoustic shows and recording, and live stuff too. The HD-28 has a really deep, rich bassy sound to it, while keeping in touch with the mids and highs as well. this picture doesn't do the guitar justice. you have to see it in person because it's a beauty. the one and only thing i found wrong with it was that the tuning pegs were a little too loose which made the strings go out of tune, but all i had to do was tighten the screws and it works great. if you play Dave Matthews or John Mayer type stuff I highly recommend this guitar. it sounds like a snare drum with strings on it cause it's so percussive and can really take a beating. the HD-28 is truly a keeper.

I have had 5 Martin guitars. The HD28 tops them all.

The HD-28 just blows you away. After many years of playing the banjo, I decided to treat myself to a "good" guitar. The first time you hit a nice G run or pick a little Black Mountain Rag you know it was the right decision! The bass knows no boundaries and the treble is clear and clean. With many fine guitars on the market try them all, but you will not find a better sound.

I own a HD-28 and I have to say it is perfect in every way (for me). I think the finish is beautiful as well as semi-tough. It will ding if you're not gentle. The craftsmanship is outstanding and the company employees will go out of their way to make you happy. I have had no problems and would recommend this guitar to anyone, no matter their skill level.

"The best acoustic I've ever played"

My 1970 D-28 has consistently been the best-sounding, best playing acoustic guitar I've ever played. I don't know anything about older versions or newer versions of the D-28, I just know about the one I own. I traded a 1965 blackface Fender Twin-Reverb amp for it (pre-CBS), and I think I got the better end of that deal. I wish I had the amp, but I'd make the trade again in a heartbeat. I had a Fishman piezo transducer professionally installed under the bridge, with the pre-amp built into the strap button so as not to cut the guitar in any way. It sounds awesome, direct with the pickup or mic'd. It's just an incredible guitar.
