Martin D-15 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar
Martin D-15 Dreadnought

With its mahogany construction and simple appointments, the D-15 is reminiscent of the Style 15 guitars of the 1940s and marks the reintroduction of mahogany top guitars to our product line. It is the lowest priced Martin guitar currently available and offers exceptional tone.

The D-15 features solid genuine mahogany for the top, back, sides, and neck; a soundboard trimmed with a single-banded gold herringbone decal rosette; and a tortoise colored pickguard. Carefully hand-selected tonewoods, master craftsmanship and beautiful finishes and styles make Martin acoustics a class all their own, and must be played to be believed.

Everyone from Eric Clapton to Sting to Johnny Lang has played a Martin guitar, and professionals and amateurs alike know the bright sparkle and deep, resonant tone that Martin guitars have become famous for, from the most high end acoustics to the Backpacker.

This guitar is a wonderful value. Punchy bass, crisp highs, and long sustain all brought on by it's solid wood construction. You can't beat this guitar for the price.

This was my first guitar. I was just borrowing the guitar at first, but after 6 months, my mom decided to get it for me as a birthday present. I love this guitar... it plays like a dream and has an equally great bass and treble and it sounds great with an under-the-bridge pickup installed in it. Anyone considering buying a guitar should take a close look at the D-15, because it sounds as nice as anything else out there that I've played. (I like this guitar more than my friend's $1900 Taylor, not to slam Taylor or anything, and it sounds just as nice as his.)

I researched this guitar quite a bit before buying. I tested out a couple of them at the local guitar store, but they wanted too much money for it, so I ordered instead from Music123.com for less (price matched) with free shipping. They were very prompt with their delivery, and when I took the guitar out of its case, it sounded better than the ones at my local store. The guitar itself is has a mellow "smokey" tone to it, not bright like spruce. It suits my playing needs very well. A+ rating for Music123.com and the Martin D-15

"A Thing of Beauty"

I read the many reviews of the D15, all of which sang its praises. Now I can add my own. This guitar is just wonderful. It's a thing of beauty to look at, without being ostentatious. It has incredible volume and clarity of tone. I play two kinds of music, folk and Hawaiian slack key guitar, and my D15 makes practicing sound like a concert. It's a very comfortable guitar to play, and seems to carry a touch of magic in the fretboard. My fingerwork is easier and more sure on some really complex licks, it's like the guitar is guiding my fingers and boosting my command of tempo and soul. I was already playing a lot but it's really hard to put this guitar down once you start playing. Unless you're looking for a prestige guitar of really high concert value, I advise you simply to buy this guitar and be done with it. It would be very hard to imagine anything under the $3,000 range coming even close in overall quality.

I purchased this with concerns about tone quality. It was a choice between this D15 Martin or a Taylor around the same price range. The D15 stole my heart. Bright, yet full body sound. I can't believe how light weight it actually is. So glad I went with a Martin.
