Something old. Something new. The new Marshall 2266 50-watt all-valve head combines the best of vintage and modern amplification. Spawned from the Marshall Hand Wired series, the power-stage of this amp is essentially that of a late '60s 100-watt Marshall head complete with beefy transformers and KT66 power tubes (think Jimi Hendrix). The modern world brings master volume, digital reverb, series FX loop, and other cool features to get your sound just the way you want it.
  • 50-Watt valve head
  • Valve compliment: 4 x ECC83 (12AX7s) in preamp, 2 x KT66 in power amp
  • Master Volume with two Gain Controls Detail (highs) & Body (lows)
  • Two footswitchable Dynamic Ranges Low & High
  • Mid Boost switch
  • Footswitchable Proprietary digital Plate Reverb
  • Series FX loop with level switch and bypass
  • Made in England

Marshall Vintage Modern 2266 Tube Amp Head

Vintage and Modern! These are two words that don't normally sit comfortably together unless you're talking guitar amplification. The Vintage aspect is, of course, the tone - fat, smooth, classic, and dynamic. The Modern aspect is the feature-set included to enable ease of use and flexibility - Master Volume, series FX Loop, extra overdrive for those hot "modded" sounds, onboard Reverb and a new frequency selective pre-amp topology to facilitate tonal tailoring for specific instruments and musical styles.

This is not a real high gain amp, but the overdrive button gets you fairly close to the "modern" sound. Clean "vintage" setting is quiet and very very tasty: the best sound I have heard with P-90s, except maybe for a Tweed Bassman. Unusual two-knob tone controls make this amp fairly easy to adjust: not a lot of dials to screw around with. The color is a deep purple so won't match your black cabinets perfectly. The stock 4x12s have Celestion Greenbacks in matching purple levant covering. Very well built but I have not fooled around with after-market re-tubing, etc., so I can't tell how easy this is to maintain.
