This amp is great because it's versatile. It's sweet for practice (headphone jack), as well as small to medium gigging, and is also great for music from death metal to modern church music. However, it shines while playing rock (any kind). It's clean tones are warm and capturing, and its overdrive channel produces a beautifully powerful distortion that makes you think you're van Halen. This amp is also very loud for 50w (easily louder than drums). Another thing is the digital effects - Chorus, delay, reverb, flange. They are awesome! As far as pedals go, with this amp, most folks only need a wah pedal. No other combo amp in its price range is as perfect. The closest would be the Line 6 Spider; none of the other ones are as versatile even if they do sound good. You might want to look at the Line 6, but then you don't get that wonderful "you've got to hear it to believe it" Marshall tone. There's many combos out there that may sound nice, but this is durable (I mean like a rock), loud, quiet, warm, powerful, full of effects, and MARSHALL!
I was looking for a new amp no smaller than 50W and no bigger than 100w and I tried a few but when I plugged my guitar into the MG50 I was blown away by the sound and its quality. I play a Fender 72 Telecaster Thinline through it and couldn't be happier with the sound. I recommend it for any one looking for a wide range of sounds from bluesy to rock and metal. Clean tone is great. You lose a bit of volume but apart from that it's fine. Overdrive is excellent and there's a lot of variation. It has its own volume control which is a bonus. You get some built in digital FX which sound good, not cheap sounding at all like some others I tried. I play a lot of rock with distortion on and no extra pedals are needed, and I also like a bit of mellow clean stuff and that's easy to achieve with the clean channel. I could keep raving about this amp, but I wont. I'll just tell you that its a fine amp for the price. Even if it were more expensive it would be worth it! Definitely give it a go.
This is a great amp. It is pretty loud too. I use it with an Esp and it's awesome. The footswitch is a huge plus. Same with the fx loop. It sounds great with delay or flange. Great sounding overdrive as well.
When I first bought this amp, it was really awesome, and it still is. I did not realize its potential. To begin with, I would only play clean tones, but after I learned the distortion and the controls, I was rocking out all day. I went from a small 10 Watt Dean MKclain Amp to this much louder one. The only problem is that I wish I would have bought the 250DFX instead.
What a surprise! This small all electronic beast is really impressive. I use a Gibson 355 Dot and have always sworn by valve-amps. Came across this babe in a practice room and completely fell for it's authority and versatility. I prefer old-fashioned guitar-cable amp combination (no pedals/outboard efx), so obviously bulky tube-amps have been the choice. In many places you can't play as loud as years ago and yet people expect a tight, punchy & crunchy sound. This little devil really delivers at all levels! No way I'm hauling around my old Fender Superreverb anymore. This is one impressive little amp that will back you all the way from the hardest SRV covers to a real smooth blues just before you close the act. At this price all I can say is: Marshall deserves 100% respect for this one!
