MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive PedalThe MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive Pedal performs like Zakk. Whether on his groundbreaking work with Ozzy Osbourne or with his own Black Label Society, Zakk Wylde's guitar playing is loud, tough, and relentless. Zakk's take-no-prisoners attitude extends to his quest for tone, too. His signature ZW-44 overdrive pedal will turn your clean amp into a heavy, chunky, crunch machine. Or, use it like Zakk does and kick it in front of a dirty amp for a screaming, sustaining lead tone. 3 simple controls output, tone, and drive make getting up and running easy, so you can concentrate on your chops.

A lot of people are expecting this to be some slaughtering pedal right out of the box. Just know that there is a major difference between overdrive and distortion. In order to obtain that Zakk wylde sound, you must use distortion in your amplifier. This pedal sounds great. The notes all sustain with great ease. However I do have EMG's in my Les Paul, which helps obtain that sound. If you are looking for a high quality overdrive, then this is the pedal for you. If you want a heavy distortion, I would probably go with the Doubleshot, which is only twenty bucks more and has two independent channels.
First there was the Tubescreamer...you set the controls as follows: LEVEL, all the way up...DRIVE, between 12:00 and 3:00 o'clock, and TONE at 12:00 o'clock. Run your guitar to the pedal, then straight into your amp. Set the amp at: GAIN, between 12:00 o'clock and all the way up, tone controls...bass all the way up...mid, 12:00 o'clock...treble, between 12:00 and 3:00 o'clock...and presence to taste. Next, came the Boss SD1...same as the Tubescreamer, but slightly more gain and less bass. The Wylde Overdrive has MORE bass than the TS and the SD1, and MORE gain than the TS and the SD1, but is used EXACTLY the same way as described above...that is how this pedal is supposed to be used, and in this respect is untouchable as a drive unit. Quality is Dunlop...great all the way. Use it the way it is supposed to be used, and you WILL get Wylde's sound, and you WON'T be disappointed.
I bought this pesal a couple of months ago, and I really do love it. It sounds clean (meaning no hum) on a clean channel if you turn all of the knobs all the way up (or I did anyway). But this is an overdrive. I had to buy an extra pedal (Dime Distortion) to get a real heavy metal sound. I play on a bass amp (for reasons unknown) and it sounded great. But I got bored with just great...I needed effen extreme...and this pedal has it
The first thing that amazed me about this pedal was the sustain. It catches onto every note. The range that this pedal has is phenomenal. You can range from a very classic sound all the way up to the nastiest and heaviest sound you would ever want! It takes no time at all to get the sound you are looking for. While the actual size of the pedal is smaller than others, the on/off is bigger than most other pedals, making it easy to stomp on and off! This pedal can take anything you throw at it. It can take a beating. No matter what you play or how you play, this pedal will do what you want it to!
I don't know what's happening with people here.....they're comparing this OVERDRIVE with a death metal stompbox........in case u don't know.....Zakk uses this pedal in front of his dirty JCM 800.....so it increases the gain and sustain of the head......obviously u can't have that heavy sound u are looking for by just plugging' the overdrive in front of your CLEAN fender.......otherwise it's a great overdrive that makes any amp scream and it doesn't mess with your amps overall tone, use it as a gain/volume booster for solos and u will rock!, Remember this is not a SUPER Distortion or whatever stompbox...it's just a "nice" overdrive
