When I first received this as a birthday present, it did take me a little while to figure out what exact sound that I wanted. This thing gives me such a range, it's hard to decide where to put it in your effect chain. Bottom Line, this pedal is worth the money.
I own an SG and an orange tube amp. This makes for a rather dark sound. I've considered changing the tubes, changing the pickups, getting effects, etc. - but all I needed was this EQ. The sound shimmers. Before, I couldn't get enough treble and I couldn't eliminate the midrange. Now, I can make my SG sound as clear and sparkling as a Tele. Also, when placed before my overdrive/distortion pedal, it brings the same clarity to the effect.Built like a tank. Buy it, you'll love it.
I use a strat and an Epiphone special through a Randall half-stack, and I just wasn't getting a bright enough tone for much of my clean parts. I got this pedal today, and tried one of the suggested settings for a "sparkling clean" tone and it made all the difference. Right now I am using it for my clean tone when I want a brighter more trebley sound and an MXR doubleshot distortion for my dirty stuff and the combination is amazing, they both sound great on their own, which creates a full all around good tone. The gain level slider is also great to get a good overdrive with. This pedal has so many possibilities that I have not even begun to tap into. This in an essential part of any guitarist who cares about his/her tone to have in their rig.
The MXR 10 band EQ has become the most crucial part of my rig! The way you can shape your sound is unbelievable! It can make your guitar sound much, richer and provide more sustain. Also, when lined up with a distortion box, I tried the Big Muff Pi and several others, this unit makes all the difference! The distortion comes truly alive! Totally recommended for anyone who is really looking to create a really professional sound from their guitar.
