The keystation 61es, from m-audio is the perfect example of how far MIDI keyboards have come over the the last 20+ years. This keyboard offers semi-weighted keys that are also velocity sensitive furthermore all to be powered by its USB interface. Then to my delight I found out how easy all the keyboard controls synched so easy with reason 2.5 (ie the volume slider, mod wheel and pitch bend). Even changing MIDI channels that in turn patch to different reason racks is a breeze. Thumbs up on this baby..!!
I bought three for a MIDI pipe organ simulator project (jOrgan / Jeux). Keys are semi-weighted. Has a key feel better than many organs I've played. Features of the keyboard (wheels, etc.) easily accessed by the software.
There aren't the bells and whistles some MIDI keyboards have but the overall feel is superb. I love the key action on this keyboard. The keys don't feel like those flimsy crap ones you see so often. When I first got it I was amazed at the quality semi-weighted feel at this price point. One black key makes a slight springy sound but it doesn't affect it otherwise or show up in the recording so it's a minor complaint.I wasn't expecting as much as what I got for this price.My buddy tried mine and now I looks like he wants one!! The build quality, etc, seems very good.Keep it up M-Audio!
For the price, you cannot do any better . I have played for many years. I love the feel. I would feel comfortable practicing on this keyboard and translating my performance to any piano. This is a perfect project studio keyboard. It has the sensitivity and feel of a piano with the benifits ofa solid synth, great job M-Audio.
