The luyben is a very popular ligature among students. Though the screw mechanism is not exactly sleek and that the large size of the lig causes the concern of not being able to fit in mouthpiece caps, the luyben produces a clear tone with a very good projection. For the price, it is a decent ligature.

I was excited when I first got this ligature but the plastic did not go well with the screws. The ligature did not I'm prove my tone quality at all. Overall I did not like this ligature.

As a Clarinet player who has worked professionally for 20 years, I have found these ligatures to give consistancy and evenness of sound, as good as many of the more expensive ligatures. Great value!

I am a high school student, and woodwind leader of my school's marching band. I have been playing clarinet for 9 years and have used my Luyben ligature for as long as I have played. My teacher also uses one. It's a very good ligature and works for me for marching as well as concert because of the good sound quality it produces as well as the projection of sound it allows. I am ordering a set of these ligatures for our clarinet section because the cheap metal ligatures that many people have just don't cut it as far as I'm concerned.

I first tried this lig. back in 1980, and it still works great! The neat thing that I found is that when students are first learning to play over the "break" this lig. makes it much easier for them! Why I'm not sure, but for 25 yrs. it's been true! More reeds seem to play w/ it as well. At this price, it's a no brainer for every student to use. I now just put one in every case before they even start playing. The only neg. thing that I've ever heard anyone say about this lig. was that the very high reg. didn't seem to pop as well, I've never has that issue...to me the upper reg. sounds less shrill when my students play up there.Band directors do yourself a favor & get all your kids on this lig.
