Owning the Tone Port is like owning a warehouse full of the most famous amps, effects, cabs, etc. I would have had to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to have all the sounds this thing has to offer. Definately recommend it to anyone looking for great tone!
It is exactly that, a TonePort. A 24-bit, 2-channel, USB recording interface. But what really makes this thing powerful and well worth the $$$ is how it works with the software. I'm pretty old school and have always thumbed my nose at amp/cabinet modeling. No longer. The modeling is great and extremely powerful. The software is almost zero learning curve. The presets are great, and of course you can set your own. What sold me on the unit was the VU meters. In practice, they're a bit small and dim, but it's still nice to have an analog element to an otherwise digital universe.
The UX2 is a very cool and innovative piece of equipment. The guitar tones which you can get from it are amazing. Add to that the bass and vocal settings. I found that I had to tweak most of the presets but the interface is very easy to use. I'm impressed with the inputs and outputs. Plug in your studio monitors or directly into an AUX input on a stereo and you can control volume right from the UX2's volume control. I have recorded a couple songs with it now and I'm still finding new tones and new great ideas.
I really wish this product would have worked for me, b/c many of its features are great - great software interface and great tones, easy to set up. However, I couldn't get it to work on my computer b/c of some crazy static feedback that would occasionally engulf my speakers and break my eardrums. Support, rather than being helpful, was abysmal, missing my emails and then cutting me off mid-exchange b/c they believed (erroneously) that I had not responded in time to their emails. I can't believe they would have a rule like that to begin with, let alone miss my response and then cut me off. They apparently are trying to lose customers and they did indeed lose this one b/c of this outrageous behavior.
This usb recording interface seems to do it all. This is my second Line6 product, the first being an xtLive. For the price, this thing is unbeatable. I use it to interface my drums/keyboards/bass/guitar/mic and it has the ability to do everything and sound great. Even if you're not recording, it is a fun tool to use as an effects unit for any of your devices. Most importantly, it is QUIET. None of that annoying background hiss.
