Never again will you need to buy an amp if you own one of these. Sounds so close to the real amp it is emulating that you would never know the difference.
This amp is incredible. I've had it for over a year and I still haven't explored all of its capabilities. The online tone dictionary is a big plus too. All in all, this is a wonderful amp for the serious guitar player that wants to take their playing to all new heights.
This amp is hard to analogize to others. Of course it is not "exactly" a Fender Twin, Mesa Boogie or Marshall stack (etc). However, when you consider price, versatility, features and the fact that it creates some very righteous renditions of a wide variety of amp sounds, I definitely think it was a good purchase. If you need to tweak your sound depending on the venue, the musical genre, etc., why own five different amps when you can use this one? Purists will disagree, but few in the audience have the ears of a purist. If you only have less than $1,000, the Flextone III XL deserves fair consideration in my humble opinion.
I got this amp two months ago and have used it so much I haven't had time to review it. First off the 36 amp models kick. You no longer need your old amp because its in this one! The effects are outstanding. At first it didn't sound too great, but I played with it and it sounds great. To get the full package you need a FBV shortboard. I got an FBV express. In a gig I wont normally need more than 4 presets. If I do I know exactly what they are before and can change them then. This amp is loud. I can't turn it up past 5 without having to stuff tissue up my ears. I like insane with flanger, and overdrive with tape echo. This amp weighs a ton and looks absolutely beautiful. My best buy yet. I have a friend who wants to trade his Marshall halfstack for it. Thank you line 6 you have amazed me.
I've owned this amp for a year. I loved it at first because the possibilities seemed so endless. I have to say I spend more time fiddling with the models to get a sound than I do actually playing. The models sound great through headphones or a PA, but sound different through the speakers. The speaker sounds are mushing out, and the Marshalls just don't rock like they should. The Soldano amp model has great crunch and presence through the headphones/PA, but when run through the speakers is sounds like its coming through a barrel, sort of "boingy" for lack of a better term. The Mesa Boogies sound good to me, but I don't play them a lot. The effects are top-notch, and the clean amps sound great. I think their Roland and Fender models are right on, even through the speakers. If you think you'll actually use the models, then be sure to thoroughly listen to it to see if it measures up to what you're expecting. If you think the models would be cool but you're not sure if you'll need them, check out a Tech 21. I wanted at the least an amp that could give me an EVH Marshall sound, and this one can't, at least not through the speakers.
