If you want a set of maracas that can be heard above a big band, these should fit the bill. I can't imagine using these in an intimate setting like a restaurant. They have a plastic sound so if you want a wood sound, get wooden maracas. If I ever get the chance to play maracas for my church orchestra and full choir, these will do nicely without amplification.

I really like using these maracas because they are really durable. They don't come apart and they are easy to clean. They do have a more harsh sound than some others, but that's OK.
