A great sounding and playing Tenor. I have played SlemerÆs, YaniÆs, YamahaÆs, KeilwerthÆs, to name a few and this horn plays and sounds as well as about anything out there. Intonation meters out spot on and the tone is wonderful. It does not have ribbed construction but who cares. It is well built as I have torn the horn down to clean and lube and everything fits with precision. Key action and feel are excellent and the horn looks beautiful. The solid silver crook I would guess helps give horn its wonderful tone since the closer to the generating of sound, the more effect you will get from different metal composition as opposed to the bell being solid silver. A high quality mouthpiece would be recommended on any axe you play to get the most out of it. I believe these are made in Taiwan as well as other horns that are getting great reviews ala Mauriat, Unison, Cannonball etc.
a word of warning from experience, if you choose this horn you must keep it well cleaned and maintained! the sterling silver tarnished badly after a short time, resulting in ugly black splotches covering a majority of the horn. the "silver polishing cloth" that comes included doesnt work well, in fact, it seems to damage the surface, as the cloth is abraisive (i have no idea why its that way). one should also watch out for the condition horns ordered online arrive in. i received the horn and areas inside the bell were scratched and there were dings and minor scratches on the bell, as if someone had previously owned it. the online order claimed it was factory sealed. jupiter attempts to make the horn sound beautiful: "the artist series". in reality, the plasticy fake pearl inlays and the cheap gold laquer (which peeled off on some areas of my horn), in addition to the small, corny engraving they have on the bell make the sax look junky overall. the grain of the sterling silver makes it appear that the horn is made out of stainless steel. it is a fully functioning sax though, with a decent sound. i recommend shelling out a few more dollars on a more reliable and acclaimed brand such as yamaha, yanigisawa, or selmer. jupiter has a fairly bad reputation, and this horn seems to reflect why.
