This was one of the first doubles I look at when considering a permanent edition to my brass arsenal. It has a decent tone characteristic to horns that is easy for a beginner or student to produce. the horn itself, however, dings and dents incredibly easy, and does not have the greatest intonation. overall, it is a O.K. student instrument for the price, but it should not be labeled as a professional level instrument.
For what it is, it's excellent. Even and quick response from top to bottom, easy slurs. The sound is compact and focused, and the notes slot well and the open harmonic series seems to be pretty well in tune. I wouldn't hesitate to compare one of these horns to an average Conn 10d (10Ds aren't consistent from one to the next... try for yourself and you'll see what I mean), and I think it plays better and sounds better than the Yamaha YHR667. Also note that his horn retails for about $1000 less. However, your mileage may vary. This horn is very firmly rooted in the Geyer style, small bell, Chicago style approach. Unfortunately, I can't speak much of the consistency since I only tried one, but what I saw was quite impressive for the price.
