Ibanez RG5EX1 Electric Guitar
The Ibanez RG5EX1 electric guitar's pickups and pickup placement provide the hard-edged cutting tone needed for heavy rock.

Since 1987, many players have selected the Ibanez RG as their weapon of choice for visiting sonic mayhem on the metal masses. With the right choice of pickups and flat, fast necks, the RG crunched its way to classic status.

As heavy as it rocks, the RG5EX1 guitar is made of basswood, a comparatively lightweight wood, which makes it very comfortable for extended playing. With a good balance of highs and lows, basswood is between alder and mahogany in sound character. 24 jumbo frets offer easy playing for leads and chording and the Edge III tremolo bridge lets you dive-bomb all night long while keeping tuning tight.

Total tonal choice is provided 5-way switching of an Ibanez Infinity 4 bridge humbucker with an alnico magnet that is warm sounding with good harmonics, an Infinity 3 bridge humbucker with a ceramic magnet producing dynamic sound for rhythm chording, and an Infinity Single3 single-coil with an alnico magnet for traditional sounds with high output.

I bought this guitar when I was looking for a good and soild guitar as well as Ibanez name. I like the shape and the feel of the neck it is very comfortable. The body is soild and is light weight plus I like the fact it has three pick-ups which are very clear sounding when playing clean or dirty.

What a screamer right out of the box! The best thing about this guitar has to be the neck. It features jumbo frets and binding. The profile is thin and fast. The back of the neck is smooth like its been played for a long time. It plays so easy. The action was really nice right out of the box. It came with 9’s so that’s what I keep in it. The Tremolo is easy to set up and tune with. The body resonates really well. It balances nicely when playing standing up with a strap. The contours on the body are perfectly located. The only possible upgrade would be to install some EMG pickups. It will play clean like a Stratocaster too. I was not expecting this. You can select the single coil pickup for a clean tone. But, crank the volume with all pickups engaged and look out! This guitar is all about quality – I can’t believe the attention to detail for a guitar in this price range! Well worth it!!!

This is one of the best guitars that I've played (out of many many many guitars) . The Wizard II neck profile is nice a smooth and speedy. The INF pickups are very articulate for passive pickups. They have a nice tone and crunch. The single coil offers that nice spring sound with the bridge pickup. Great for solos. The grey pewter finish adds that super metal feel along with the reverse headstock. The edge III trem is very user friendly. Easy to adjust in string gauge changes and floats like a dream. I am very happy with this guitar and would recomend it to and advanced player or a begginer. This guitar is a great addition to any collection.

When I first saw this guitar I was a bit skeptical for the fact that "here's another gray Ibanez", but the second I picked it up I was intrigued. It's a very sleek guitar, a good weight and with an attractive look. With the reverse headstock, bound fretboard, sharktooth inlay, it was hard to agree with the price. However, the pickups are low-end stock, the "Wizard II" neck isn't as thin, and the "Edge III" tremolo's short life still makes this guitar a bargain buy after it's all said and done!
