The H & B straight mute is great for pop and jazz band usage. I would never recommend this for concert band, orchestra or recital music. It's economical, but will not stand up to a lot of rough use. I pretty much only use one for jazz band on account of the lightness and ease of handling for quick mute changes.. I knew one of the trombonist's from the Basie band back in the 1970's and he said they used a lot of them because they get banged up a lot and have to be replaced often. A nice thing is, if you drop it, it doesn't clang like a metal one.
