The sound that started it all
Holton's bass trombone line were some of the earliest to "push the envelop" on sound and resonance. The TR183 is part of that heritage and demonstrates this well in it's playing characteristics. Plenty of strength yet a beautiful sound make this instrument sought after by many players today.

This Holton bass is simply magnificent. I occasionally use it in place of my marching tenor. It sounds like a dream! I played it for our school musical last year, and it was just superb. I'm only really a beginner on the bass, so the low notes are still kinda weak, but I'm getting there. I listened to a CD from last year when I played this bone, and I was like wow, that trombone sounds really good. Now I'm opting whether or not to use it for Jazz and Marching next year. Most likely will. Again, great instrument!

The TR183 is the perfect alternative for the tenor trombonist seeking a freer response and bigger sound since it is a larger bore horn. No open wrap is necessary here, due to the larger bore, and the higher registers respond like a TR161 tenor. The 9" bell gives this horn a tambre similar a TR159.

This is the best trombone I have ever played. I play it in jazz band and the slide is so free.

I received this Holton when I was in 6th grade and 4 years later it still plays as if it were new. It makes a nice dark sound that is extremely important in symphonic bands. The slide works excellently and finding notes is easier that most horns. In the higher register it is excellent. My only complaint is that when playing low notes that require a trigger, it sometimes makes it hard to hit. But in a month or two you will be used to it. This horn is perfect for a beginner and advanced students.
