Product Detail

Hohner 1896/20 Marine Band Harmonica
The Marine Band Diatonic Harmonica is internationally recognized by players for its simple beauty and resonant tone. This is probably the most famous harmonica in the world. The pearwood body, solid brass plates and patented cover design produce a musical quality that, when first heard in 1896, brought the Marine Band immediate popularity.

Diatonic harmonica reeds produce the notes of the scale to which they are tuned. For example, a diatonic harmonica tuned to the key of C would produce the natural notes of the C scale without sharps and flats. (Picture just the white keys on a piano, without the black keys.) Each harmonica hole has two reeds; one plays when breath is exhaled (blow) and the other when inhaled (draw). The individual reeds are each tuned to play a different note on the scale.

Keys: G, Ab (G#), A, Bb, B, C, Db (C#), D, Eb, E, F, F#, High G, Low D, Low Eb, Low E, Low F, Low F# Natural Minor and Harmonic Minor in all 12 keys.

"Marine Band rocks!" by zephyrazure

I own several different Hohner diatonic harmonicas, and the 1896 Marine Band is still my favorite (in any key). The wooden combs allows an amazing' depth of sound that comes with soul. This fairly inexpensive harmonica is great for beginners to advanced players. I would recommend the Marine Band to anybody who is serious about music.

"favorite Hohner diatonic harmonica" by The blues master

Musical Experience: just play for fun

I've got each of the models made by Hohner, at least the diatonic ones that are less expensive, including the marine band, special 20, blues harp, pro harp, and so on, and this one, the marine band is my favorite. It is the easiest to bend, it's nice and loud, nice and small, easy to hold, has a nice bright tone, and is just great. All the other ones are great too, but this one happens to be my favorite. The special 20 is awesome too, but you can't go wrong in buying a Hohner, it doesn't really matter which one, but this one is my favorite.

"SMALL AND SWEET HARMONICA" by LINDA LICATA

Musical Experience: HOBBYIST
Style of Music: BEATLES, MOODY BLUES, ETHNIC MUSIC.

I JUST RECEIVED THE HARMONICA TODAY. IT IS REAL CUTE AND SMALL. I HAVE THE SAME HARMONICA WITH 12 HOLES. IT IS A LITTLE BIT BIGGER, AND HARDER TO HOLD. BUT, THE SAME MARINE BAND SERIES. IT COST MORE, SO I WANTED A GOOD HARMONICA, THAT I CAN CARRY AROUND WITH ME, AND KEEP THE MORE EXPENSIVE ONE AT HOME. IT FITS IN THE PALM OF MY HAND PERFECTLY. SWEET AND SMOOTH. A LITTLE LESS LOUD, THAN THE 12 HOLE HARMONICA, BUT THAT IS FINE WITH ME. GOOD QUALITY. MADE IN GERMANY, INEXPENSIVE TO BOOT. WHO COULD ASK FOR MORE? NOT A TOY, BUT A GOOD STARTER, OR BEGINNER HARMONICA. THANK YOU. I LOVE MUSIC123.COM. I BUY ALL OF MY INSTRUMENTS HERE.
