I've always really loved Juniors, Specials and melody makers, the punky poor relation to the snazzy big buck Gibsons. the sound, the feel and the look have always suited me well. So when these MM reissues came out, it was only a matter of time before I owned one. Basically, the guitar is awesome looking and feeling, but the single coil bridge pickup leaves a bit to be desired. At first it seems a bit Tele like, which is not a bad thing, but when compared to my other guitars, which have P-90s or vintage voiced buckers, it sounds very brittle, thin, and way too bright. I like everything else about the guitar, and will be switching out the pickup soon. A great buy, a good little guitar.

I am a beginner and purchased this guitar about a year ago and have been extremely happy with it. The neck is smaller than most other guitars which is perfect for a person with smaller hands like myself. The black matte finish is beautiful and the sound it puts out is fantastic. I would recommend this guitar to any level of player it is a great guitar and a great value.

Very simple guitar with all the essentials. The finish is similar to Gibsons black and white faded SGs. The neck is fantastic and the workmanship is better than some higher priced Gibsons I've owned. The single coil is not bad, but there are already aftermarket blues custom wound pickups available. All and all a jewel in an otherwise overpriced USA guitar market. I was so impressed I bought 4 and am giving them to my grandkids. Very little not to like.

Where are you going to find a American made guitar for this price in this economy today? No Where! This little guitar is a simple no fuss Rocking machine. If you like Gibson Guitars but like myself are on a very tight budget - This is your ticket. Through the right Amp this guitar is Golden! Some folks complain about the faded finish - But others stand in line to but a Relic and say how cool they look. I can't figure it out? All and all The Gibson Melody Maker reissue is a true winner in my book! Just try one out and see.

I am a complete beginner, so I do not know how this compare to some other guitars, but both an experienced friend and my teacher were very pleased and actually surprised for the quality of this guitar, specially considering its price. For me, it is a gret start, for it is light, simple, and sounds great. I am very happy with my Gibson.
