First, I think it is amazing that I can order something which gets sent from Indiana on a Wednesday and arrives at my home in on monday morning at a saving of about 40% on what it would cost here.
The guitar. This is mainly a comparison with the similar LP junior lite, which is very similar, but has P100s (which I prefer by a fair way), a proper finish and nickel not chrome in places. The LP faded has the 'rhythm/treble' ring around the pickup selector the LP junior lite doesn't.
It is always interesting to see where they save money on these cheaper guitars. On this one, clearly the finish is pretty inexpensive and won't be to everyone's taste. The hardware is fine - well as fine as Gibson deluxe tuners are - I feel a Grover moment approaching! There is no binding and it comes with a gig bag, not a case. The extension of the faded finish across the back of the neck gives it an odd (but not bad) feel. If you like slick necks you won't like this. It has narrow but highish frets and came pretty well set up. The neck is quite thin, very playable and great if you have smaller hands.
The important things are well done. The MOP fret markers are tidy (and they are proper dots!) and the rosewood fingerboard is far better quality wood than you'd find on a Fender at this price. The body wood looks decent too and the construction is free from significant faults. Shame the Gibson logo is such an obvious decal, though!
It sustains until next Wednesday (a great plus of this design) and has a characteristic P90 sound - relatively low noise on mine. The volume controls give you a lot of variety and it is easy to play.
If you play electric guitar, life isn't complete without a P90'd axe. This is about the cheapest one you'll find and it is a decent guitar to boot. The bass is very powerful and the mids nicely 'scooped'.
The electrics, bridge and stop bar are all good quality and probably will out live me by decades.
People often knock Gibson for setup and finish. This was OK on both counts. What they don't mention is that this is a properly built, set neck guitar which will last for decades, and has quality equipment in all the right places: that is a darned sight more important than a bit of stray glue etc: and in any event, this guitar had no setup problems or significant finish issues. If there is better bang for the buck at this price I haven't seen it: 5 stars is a value rating, not absolute. This guitar is a steal.

I've been an owner of over 100 Gibsons. (Not all at once) When I got this, I really hated the finish, (gloss would much nicer) but what do you want for under a grand? I previously owned a 57 very similar, and always regretted selling it. I've had it a week and can't put it down, yes the frets are a little rough on the edges, so what, don't let that scare you off(20 bucks at a guitar shop)no buzzing, straight neck (the thin cool one)and P-90s speak 4 themselves. Hey young guitar players, you couldn't spend your money better, and all my Gibsons went up in value as I'm sure this will..nice job 4 the price Gibson!
