Gibson Les Paul BFG Electric GuitarA stripped-down, rock 'n' roll flamethrower, the Les Paul BFG is the most powerful Les Paul Gibson has ever made. Blasted back to the bare essentials, the BFG is the Les Paul for guitarists who want it loud, raw, and wild. Two volumes and one tone knob control the sonic spectrum put out by a high-powered BurstBucker 3 humbucker in the bridge and a screaming, singlecoil P-90 in the neck. The traditional toggle has been rewired as a kill switch, and a mini-toggle at the volume knobs controls pickup selection. An innovative powerhouse, the BFG has no binding, no figured top, no finishing touches. This gives the BFG a distinctive look that is both modern and vintage, while allowing for a price that makes pure Les Paul performance available to all players. The result is a perfect storm of eye-catching style, incredible tone, and unbeatable playability - all at a great price. Destined to be a classic.

This is ONE BFG if you know what i Mean...Absolutely love the P-90 in the neck position..Great through my Blues Junior for that mellow but biting blues sound...Then push the tubes a bit with the volume knob and get that creamy overdrive. WOW..First time i took it out was to a party with some other musicians I had never jammed with before. I played through my old 59 gibsonette 15 watter with a tube screamer, and people couldn't stop raving about how that thing sounded..Trust me, this is the best thing Gibson has done in many a year, and you will kick yourself if you don't get one, I call it the Anti-Les Paul, because it is stripped down to it's essence. Nothing pretty except the Sound...Rock on.
This guitar is so RAD!! I've been playing this marvy ax with my current band, The Brotherhood of Exquisite Shredmasters, and I love it. It's light, so I can jump and thrash a lot. The audience seems to love it, and the rhythm guitarist of my band keeps on wanting to borrow it. The hum churns out frothing power cords and spitting high-end solos, and the P-90 simply screams and shrieks with bright. thick sounds. I have a Fender Metalhed, and the bfg sounds FAB through it! Most people think it's ugly, but I think it's quite handsome in yellow. This and my Telecaster are my new favorite guitars.
OK so this is my first Les Paul but not my first Gibson... this guitar seriously rocks! The amount of tone, sustain and range is unbelievable with a mixture of the P90 & Burstbucker #3 (plus the unfinished wood of the guitar). Nice fat 50s neck and a great finish, "bare bones" LP. Excellent clean with both pickups and excellent dirty sounds as well you will not be sorry if you choose this Gibson. I prefer the sound and feel of an unfinished guitar, so this is right up my alley. From Standard to Flats to Drop D or DADGAD - this guitar can handle it all! Pick up one before Gibson stops making them OR raises the price. Under a grand for a LP like this is a STEAL!
I bought this guitar because I have always liked the sound of the Les Paul and I like the idea of a P90 mixed with a Humbuck. And I am very pleased with the sounds you can get out of the intrument as a result. Tends to be on the hot/crunchy side but that works well for what I play mostly (Blues/Rock). I have owned 3 or 4 LPs now, including Custom Shop models and let them go because I decided my 50 year old shoulders couldn't take the weight, so I hesitated here for that reason. Happily, this is a very light intrument for the model. The lack of trim/bling will generate individual reactions, but, with a little after-market dressing up to suit my tastes, this is an everyday instrument that sounds great .... every bit as good as the LP customs I've had. Personally, I kinda like the "rough" look. This is the best bang for the buck out of Gibson in a while.
I've only had Washburn and Ibanez prior to this. I've sold those and have one electric now; the BFG. The first thing I noticed is the build quality such as the cord receptacle and tuners do not come loose. I ordered mine from Music123. The thing was a bit too stripped down for me when I opened the box. I added gold Gibson knobs, a plastic knob to pickup switch, pickup trim rings, Rhythm / Treble washer to kill switch and a truss rod cover. Adding a trim ring to the bridge pickup is a pain. You will have to drill holes. The thing looks great now. I like the black Grover tuners. I think they look better than the standard tuners. This guitar sounds soo much better than my others did and it just feels nicer to play. I play a lot more now and have quit looking at other guitars with lust. The difference is even more apparent when played through an all tube amp. I have an American Strat snob for a friend who has hated every guitar I’ve owned. He actually said my BFG played and sounded as good his. Now that was a compliment! I have to keep the treble rolled back quite a bit on the Burstbucker to get the sound I like. I have not really figured out if I’m a fan of the P90 yet. It is nice for solo but gets a bit muddy with chords. I will say this is the first guitar that I have not replaced the pickups with Seymor Duncans. These pickups sound great. In fact the guitar sounds so good that I no longer use my effects/pedal board. I go straight to a dual channel tube amp.
