Musical Experience: Leader of a big old band
Style of Music: chuck berry style and Nigerian bop
Hometown: Perth Australia
As the leader of a big old band, without any hesitation, I have to give Gibsons ES335 the No 1 position. It is so far out there in sound, playability and style that nothing else qualifies in the race. Why do you think countless manufacturers have attempted to imitate this amazing piece of hardware, and it's suited to playing in many styles. Gibson has set this guitar up so perfectly that my fingers are addicted to its amazing comfort and action and while my ears rejoice in its classic tones of those '57 humbuckers. It must be said that once you start to play a 335, it is not easy to put it down. I am now playing guitar just like a ringing a bell. In my books, Gibson's ES335 has no equal. Truly the Rolls Royce of guitars. Go Johnny go..

"Still the Ultimate Blues machine" by Brudr

The one everyone tries to imitate! I have tried the Guild Starfire and the Heritage and neither can match the 335 (or the Classic 57 pickups). There is no cheaper acceptable alternative.

"My Favorite Guitar!" by Dave

Musical Experience: Just a hobbyst now, but I still get out now and again
Style of Music: Everything
Hometown: Near San Francisco, CA
I've been playing guitar for about eighteen years, and I've always wanted a Gibson ES-335, but I never wanted to lay out the long dough. Of course I always found a way to get just about every other guitar (Strats, Les Pauls, Telecasters, a Paul Reed Smith McCarty, and assorted others), but I ultimately denied myself the ES-335. I really did myself an injustice. I have connected to this guitar like no other. ThereÆs just something magical about the action, feel, and sound that have become addictive, like no guitar I have ever played. I have had this guitar now for about four months and I look forward to coming home from work every day so I can put another couple of hours of playing time on it. Perhaps the greatest thing about this guitar is the tone. The semi-hollow design and those æ57 Classics pickups combine to create an awesome range of tone that can cover jazz, country, classic rock, twangy rock, funk, and hard-edged gritty blues. The looks are also just classic. A simple design that is hard to beat. This is the exact same guitar as the Gibson ES-335 Reissue (or Dot Reissue), but it is $350 less. The only difference is that it is all black with aged binding instead of the Cherry, Light Burst, Transparent Brown, and Vintage Sunburst found on the Reissue. In fact, the Gibson website doesn't even break these out as separate guitars. Instead, they just include Ebony as one of the color options for the ES-335. Therefore, you can get the same great guitar in Ebony for a bit less than the other colors. I think the Ebony and aged ivory binding are really awesome and hard to beat. Of course, the other colors are pretty awesome too, so it may be worth it for you to shell out the extra dough if one of those colors really float your boat. So, what it comes down to is that I am just very, very happy with this guitar and I wish I had bought one years ago. The admission price for this ride is a bit steep, but the guitar is just plain awesome. I would advice almost anyone to put off buying half a dozen other cheaper guitars and just save up for one of these. In addition, Music123 got it to me ahead of schedule and the set up was ten minutes of adjustments away from being perfect.
