I see lots of references here to AC/DC's "highly distorted" tone. Angus Young's tone is not highly distorted. It has a light amount of overdrive, 's all. You will not nail Angus' tone by turning your gain up - keep it below 1 o'clock. Additionally, someone posted that Slash plays an SG? Hrm, he has a signature Les Paul, I'll leave you to figure it out... This guitar, though, is great. I don't need to talk about the looks - there's pictures right here. The tone, however is great, and the guitar is more versatile than you'd think. It's no high-gain metal monster, but then, it wasn't meant to be. For pretty near everything else, this'll fir the bill (especially with a coil-tapping/coil-splitting mod).

I have been an SG owner (and SG's are all I own and ever will) for the past 12 years. All together I have owned 6 SG's. I am down to three at the moment. My inventory consists of a '91 standard, a 2001 Les Paul re-issue and of course my latest addition, the Angus Young Signature. Without a doubt in my mind it is the stand alone modern SG. My biggest gripe about the other SG's I own (and the ones I don't have anymore) is the intonation. It's a problem that I cannot seem to get around. Mainly the "G" string keeps going out. (Which I have heard from other owners to be a common thing) I have only found one guy who can correct the problem and he is two hours from me. The Angus Young, after a year of constant work has remained true. That alone earns this guitar 5 stars! I was very surprised at how well made it actually is. First off... its very solid! A much heavier SG than I am used to. Then you get to the tone! Deep rich sound that is just full of flavor! I think it's about time that Gibson made an SG of this quality (referring to the modern day guitars of course)! In fact, I am about to sell my Les Paul re-issue to buy another "Angus" model. I can't speak for other model guitars, but for SG lovers like me... you cant go wrong with this one!

I used to look at pictures of guitars all day (hey, I still do) but when I saw a Gibson Flying V, I literally fell in love with it. So, at the next guitar sale I thought, "Yes, I finally get to play one". I picked it up off of the shelf as soon as I had stopped gawking, plugged it into a Marshall (don't know which one), and played a few licks on it. I wasn't that impressed, so I put it back, turned to my right and saw this WONDERFUL guitar !... I thought, "wow, what a beauty", I picked it up, plugged it in, played the same licks, and I now LOVE this guitar! I think this guitar is one EVERYONE should own.. I'm sure if you are looking at this review you would love it too!

I just posted a review on the Les Paul and had to put my two cents worth on the SG too. I have a 1971 SG and if you are a lead player and have never played one, it is the smoothest playing neck you will ever hold. The sound makes me think of a bumble bee skewered on each string and he's happy about it. My Les Paul is my "wife" guitar and the SG is my "mistress" guitar. I Love Gibson!!
