I have been on a mission to find the best acoustic amp for the past week. I am starting to play small gigs, bars and coffee shops with my band and I have been looking for a solid acoustic guitar amp that can replicate the beautiful sound of my Takamine guitar. Before I started looking I had not heard of Fishman amplifiers. Apparently the Fishman Loudbox won acoustic amp of the year in 2004. When I plugged in and played I could tell why. The Fishman made my guitar sound fantastic. Clear and crisp sound. The amp has tons of headroom and a mic input for vocals. I was very impressed by this amp. I would recommend this amp to anyone with the bucks to spend on this fine amp.
One main question about the amp, with 6.5" bass drivers, was whether the bass would be as solid as an amp with larger drivers. The answer is unequivocally yes.Bass is solid. Mid is solid. Treble is solid. Sound quality is clean and crisp. Headroom is scary large. I have had no need to go beyond about 4 on master volume. If you are in a large venue you may need to go further, and you can.Unit is relatively compact, solidly built, fairly portable but just heavy enough to start to be noticeable if you have to lug it around a lot.All the features seem to work as advertised. Notch filter does the job on a rather boomy dreadnought guitar. Range of adjustment of bass, mid and treble is satisfactorily large. Noise level is negligible. Reverb and Chorus effects are useful but a bit weak, IMHO. They are not serial, so you get either one or the other of the effects, applied on both channels at adjustable level per channel. The only other amp I tried that seem comparable was a Fender Acoustasonic JR DSP, a very nice amp, but with less headroom, and somewhat bulkier (perhaps not heavier) to transport.
this is the best amp for what I do that is oud playing and voice. The vocals sound very very clean and the bass is very good and tight. I love the mute button and the preamps and phanthom power... I just love the whole amp.. it is 35 pounds and won't break your back either.
