This American Standard Series P Bass has a vintage body radius and contour for a classic vibe and feel. The body is rendered in premium alder for optimum tone and sustain. Its rosewood or maple fretboard features detailed fret and nut work. The neck is graphite-reinforced and has rolled edges for a broken-in feel from the get-go.HMV Bridge (high mass vintage) increases sustain, provides punchier tone, beefier looking plates and 3/8" diameter vintage saddles. String height adjustment screws have nylon patches for a tight fit that won't vibrate loose.

A 12-gauge cold rolled steel plate machined brass backstop increases mass, enhances top end. Socket head intonation screws are engineered for a tighter fit, and are now more stable. This an excellent bass guitar! It's improvements on design are well noted from the tuners to it's lightweight body, even the hardshell case it comes in is great! It just feels all around great to play. Fender also supplies with the guitar all the tools you need to make your own adjustments if you don't like the stock setup as well as a stap, 10' electric cable and cleaning cloth ( a nice little bonus!) The sound is also true to the vintage Fender sound. Job well done to the people at Fender! I recommend this bass wholeheartedly!

"A desert island with just my Mike Lull or this bass.. I don't want to decide. I love this bass"

To put this in context my current "main bass" is a Mike Lull Jazz which Ive had for 10 years (and love). Previous to that an 80s G&L, several 70s Fender Jazz basses & Precisions, and a Rickenbacker. My main amp is a Thunderfunk thru Epifani 10s. I use D'Addario XL Nickel Round Wounds. This is one of my favorite basses. If it came down to the Lull or this bass .. well, I just don't want to have to make that decision. I love the tone and I love the feel of it. It sounds great finger picked, thumb picked (especially), or played w/ a pick (my main mode). I like *everything* Fender has done to this line, and everything they haven't (it's still a good old Fender P-bass). My only bad experience was the setup when it arrived (or lack thereof). Of course we've had a record breaking hot summer in Texas, so any thing shipped overland was likely to take a beating heat wise.

"Where Have You Been All My Life"

This bass is one of the most versatile basses I've ever played. While the sound itself doesn't vary too much, it fits almost any style of music. My main band plays aggressive metal in drop C and this bass handles it very well. I have also used it for blues and jazz, as well as a progressive band I'm in. As far as playability goes, this is a dream, the neck is smooth and fast, at least to me, and I have no trouble playing with my fingers, a pick, or slapping. On that note, this thing is a slap machine! Overall a beautiful instrument, that I will cherish for a long time. I love it.
