First off this amp really is great, clean is amazing, and so are any distortions you put through it. But maaaan is this mother loud. Too loud in fact. For anyone who think that they need a half stack to play shows, or 85 watts of tube power through this amp, you are mistaken. Shes beautiful, but way way way too loud unless your a touring musician playing sold out stadiums (and have roadies to carry the beast). Tone comes with volume on tube amps, and to get great tone u need to crank this mother, and unless you have an abandoned airstrip to do it in, your going to piss a lot of people off. I used to think I needed an amp that could level a small building, but you really really don't. This thing also weighs a ton and is a pain to carry around. Get one of its little brothers instead. Many international touring musicians use the deluxe reverb and it only has 22 watts, which is more than enough. The house p.a. will do its job, get a smaller amp.
I have a '65 fender twin reverb(original). I do believe it's the best amp ever made! My grandpa used it for thirty years and then passed it to me. I've used it for 6 years and it's still going strong.
I have had this amp since 2002 and it never let me down. The clean tones you will do with this amp will make you love it from the first note. It's warm and creamy. I've played few years on a Marshall, but once I heard the twin, I switched to the Fender sound. The tremolo and reverb are great. I've compared a couple of tremolo and reverb pedals, but nothing came close to the genuine sound of this amp. The only thing that lacks from this amp is a footswith pedal with three buttons instead of two (one more for channel switching). It doesn't come with a drive channel like most of other amps, but I assure you that it doesn't need one. I'm using a DOD grunge fuzz, an Ibanez TS9 and a Boss DS1 on it and I always get the right sound with this amp. I've tried it in the studio also and it sounds awesome either using the Fender Stratocaster or the Gibson SG. Bass, mids or high frequencies come out as right as you want it. The bright switch does its job just perfectly. When I practice I never go higher then 3 on volume and in the studio I've recorded once with the main level at 9 obtaining a pure drive right from the amp with no pedals because of the "valve saturation". Great amp.
I started playing over thirty years ago in little bars and hole-in-the-wall beer joints with my Harmony Rocket three pick-up "POS" and a second hand Twin. That amp is still with me today some thirty years and thirteen gold records later. The only thing I ever did to that great old amp was to stick two 12" JBL speakers in her. The Fender Twin Reverb and JBL's are unbeatable!!! Believe me, I've played through many others. The Fender Twin Reverb is the king daddy of guitar amps! J.R.
