I have played bass for about 40 years now, and yes, I made it my life's work. I currently have about 16 basses. I am not a collector; I play most of them for different purposes. I sold my 73 P bass back in 1983 because I had a custom Alembic built for me. All I can say is a few years later I began to miss my P bass terribly, for both sentimental reasons, and also its straightforward sound. I have a lot of expensive basses, and naturally they each have their own particular use. But the P bass has one of the most USEFULL sounds I have EVER found -bar none. The Mexican built 50's style bass represents what I love most about the P bass. Its wide string spacing is makes it so easy to get between the strings for a variety of techniques. I find it to be a well balanced and comfortable bass to play either sitting, or standing. It's not very heavy. The maple fingerboard is my favorite for its solid punch, and brightness. Don't worry; you can roll off a little of the highs for that rock solid p bass tone. The "build" exceeds my hopes. It is very well made, and hardly needs any customization at all. If any, I might replace the tuners. They work fine, but are very stiff when turned. What I have learned is that you can find other basses with a great deal of tonal flexibility, but the P bass, as simple as it is, will always get the job done right without a lot of frills. The foreign made price makes the bass a great value. AND, it's beautiful! (I bought the sunburst.)

I ordered this bass off the net and didn't know what to expect but trusted all the good reviews I had read. In the early eighties I owned the american version of this bass. Other than the chrome covers and finger rest I cant tell much diffence at all. The woodwork is every bit as good. I think what kept the price lower was using a poly finish rather than laquer but it is actually a stronger finish. I swapped out the pickup right away for a seymour duncan vintage but to be honest I couldn't tell any difference in the sound so you might want to just go with the existing pickup. The bass sounds incredible, has a very stable neck and a beautiful paint job. I highly recommend this bass and I am comparing it to many precisions that I have owned in the past. Great buy.
