I have now been the proud owner of a '62 jazzmaster reissue for almost a decade: this guitar is an absolute pearl!! she plays with such ease, you'll never want to part with it. as for the sound, let me put it this way: I've never played such a versatile guitar. tones range from the clean treble biting sound of a strat to the warm hollow sound of a jazz guitar. and if you've ever seen a more stylish design please run it by me. this guitar will be the envy every other guitarist in your neighborhood !!! you will never regret buying a fender jazzmaster!!!!!!!
First, let's get one thing straight. Do not buy this guitar because Kurt Cobain and other grunge players used it or similar guitars. You can play distorted power chords on ANY guitar, they just happened to use the Jazz and Jag. That said, this guitar is fantastic. I'm a surf fan and finally I can capture all the sounds I love on those surf records. Cleans sounds are crisp, and not too trebly or boomy. Yes, this guitar has almost no sustain, but I personally love that aspect of it. Chords and riffs don't get mushed together. The tremolo is surprising effective. It's one of the few guitars I have that doesn't go out of tune at all when I use it, including my Bigsby equipped Gretsch. The neck on the guitar feels solid and smooth. You have easy access to the upper frets but it's not a shredder's guitar. I think a recent review says it best - your probably already know before playing the Jazzmaster whether it's for you or not. It defined a very specific genre and if you find all your guitar idols using it, then it's for you. If you want ACDC, GnR, and Led Zeppelin it is NOT for you.
